An Instrumentation Engineer is an individual who combines principles of physics, engineering, and mathematics to design, install, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial instrumentation systems. Instrumentation Engineer Job Description

Instrumentation engineers work in manufacturing plants, oil and gas fields, refineries, and other industries. They are responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining machines and instrumentation devices. Their role includes the following job duties:

Design Instrumentation Systems

  • Study the design and technical specifications of existing systems
  • Develop designs for instrumentation and control systems for a range of applications
  • Test accuracy and diagnose issues of these systems

Maintain Instrumentation Systems

  • Conduct preventative maintenance of instrumentation devices, control systems, and other related machinery
  • Perform onsite repairs and calibration of machines
  • Provide technical support and respond to service requests quickly

Administer Electronic Data Management

  • Organize and store electronic data and files related to instrumentation
  • Implement appropriate maintenance and monitoring protocols
  • Develop strategies to ensure data security and accuracy

Responsibilities

Requirements and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemical engineering, systems engineering, instrumentation technology, or a related field
  • Previous experience in instrumentation engineering, process engineering, or chemical engineering
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation, control systems, complex systems, and mathematics
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills
  • Complex data analysis and decision-making skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
