Quantity Surveyor Job Description
Responsibilities Include:
- Measuring quantities from drawings, diagrams, plans, and models.
- Analyzing construction drawings, plans, and blueprints.
- Preparing budget estimates, cost management, taking into account labor costs, material costs, and timeframes.

Job Brief
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the measurement, valuation, and pricing of construction work. You will handle pre- and post-contract administration tasks and provide advice on contractual and financial aspects of civil engineering. Your role will also involve working with subcontractors and managing the costs of construction projects.
You will work closely with subcontractors to ensure that the quality of the work meets specifications and that subcontractors are paid on time without any issues. Additionally, you will provide advice regarding project costs to clients, taking into account the objectives of the project, material costs, labor costs, and project duration.
You will review budgets and contracts, making suggestions for improvement and protecting the client from any potential issues. Effective communication is essential in this role, as you will need to stay in touch with clients and subcontractors, answering questions and ensuring that everybody is on the same page.
Utilizing your analytical skills, you will interpret technical documents and assess the associated risks and costs of various types of projects. Your attention to detail and organizational skills will enable you to work on multiple tasks at all times and manage and prioritize tasks to meet strict deadlines.
Requirements and Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Project Management, or a related field. Completion of a postgraduate program or course is a plus.
- Experience: At least three years of working experience in Quantity Surveying. Understanding of contracts, arbitration, and adjudication.
- Software skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, building information modeling (BIM), and quantity surveying specific software.
- Organizational skills: Ability to work on multiple tasks and manage and prioritize tasks to meet strict deadlines.
- Communication skills: Excellent communication skills in both oral and written English. Ability to effectively communicate with clients and subcontractors.
