RMO Job Description

Job Title: RMO (Resident Medical Officer)

Role Overview: The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) for the Critical Care and High Dependency Unit (HDU) is a crucial role in a hospital setting. The RMO is responsible for providing medical treatment and overseeing individuals in both the critical care and High Dependency Unit (HDU) areas. They collaborate closely with health professionals to ensure the best quality of treatment for patients who require intensive surveillance and treatment.

Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:

    • Monitor and provide treatment for critically ill patients within the Critical Care and HDU areas.
    • Conduct initial assessments, track vital signs, and administer appropriate medical treatments.
    • Administer fluids, medications, and treatments as directed.
    • Collaborate and coordinate with nurses, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to create and implement plans for patient care.
    • Perform procedures such as central line incisions or arterial line insertions and endotracheal intubations, if needed.
    • Follow the progress of patients, interpret diagnostic tests, and modify treatment plans as necessary.
    • Respond quickly in emergency situations and provide necessary resuscitation and life-saving interventions when needed.
  • Documentation and Communication:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records of patients.
    • Promptly record every assessment, intervention, and treatment plan.
    • Effectively communicate with healthcare professionals regarding the patient's progress, changes in condition, and updates on treatment.
    • Clearly and concisely communicate instructions to nurses and other team members on patient management and care.
  • Team Collaboration:

    • Work collaboratively with specialists, consultants, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive treatment for patients.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary sessions, clinical discussions, and treatment planning meetings.
    • Assist with the coordination of patient transfers and transfers to other departments or units.
  • Quality Improvement and Education:

    • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in critical medical care and HDU methods through ongoing medical education.
    • Participate in initiatives to improve quality, such as clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and research projects.
    • Provide guidance and instruction to medical students, nurses, junior medical staff, and other healthcare professionals.
    • Contribute to the creation and implementation of guidelines and protocols in critical medical care and HDU management.

Qualifications:

  • A medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • A valid medical license or registration for practice.
  • Experience in critical healthcare and HDU is highly desired.
  • Excellent clinical skills with the ability to make quick and precise decisions in urgent situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities to effectively interact with families, patients, and the healthcare team.
  • Ability to perform well under stress and in a high-speed working environment.
  • Availability to work in rotational shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
